Rob first discovered his passion for food as a young man admiring his Aunty and Grandparents simple pleasure in cooking, and attention to fresh produce building recipes around what was in season. And with a family background of Chefs it is little wonder that this passion lead him to work alongside some great mentors including Danny Russo, renowned Italian Chef at the Ambarvale, and Rob Phillips, Runner Up Chef of the Year in 2018 working together at The Steyne Hotel Manly.
Rob’s background spans two decades with a strong catering (GWS Giants AFL team) and gastro pub background in Sydney and brings this experience to Berrima’s Surveyor General Inns’ Bistro 1834 taking the ‘local pub experience’ to the next level. Experience Rob’s new Autumn menu featuring seasonal local produce or make a selection from the newly introduced bar tasting plates.
A father of two beautiful girls, Ida and Eve, Rob appreciates the role of good family food when dining out and is hands on with selecting fresh local produce and prime cuts of meat, fish and poultry. The specials board is the best place for diners to find good, seasonal produce at market prices. And Rob’s suggestion would be a Wagyu Rump Steak cooked to perfection served with chimichurri, the Snapper Ceviche on a warm summers night, or for something simple hand rolled gnocchi made fresh daily with a relaxing glass of local red wine enjoyed in the courtyard with his wife and girls.
