On the last Sunday of every month, something special happens in the heart of Berrima.
As the morning sun rises over the historic village, Berrima Marketplace Park begins to fill with everything from vintage classics and modern supercars to motorcycles, race cars, trucks and even the occasional tractor. Enthusiasts arrive from across New South Wales and the ACT, drawn together by a shared passion for vehicles and the welcoming atmosphere that has become synonymous with Cars & Coffee Southern Highlands NSW.
But spend a little time at one of these gatherings and you’ll quickly discover that this event is about far more than horsepower.
Cars & Coffee Southern Highlands NSW was established four years ago when local enthusiasts Nathan, Jeff and Benny took over the reins from Darren and Phil, founders of the popular Bowral Cars and Coffee gatherings. While continuing the legacy of the original event, the trio recognised something important. Following the COVID years, many people were looking for opportunities to reconnect, socialise and simply spend time together.
What has emerged is one of the Southern Highlands’ most welcoming community events.
Held from 8am to 10am on the last Sunday of every month (excluding December), the gathering attracts visitors from Newcastle, Canberra, Katoomba and everywhere in between. Locals mingle with travellers, families wander among the vehicles, and conversations spark between complete strangers brought together by a shared interest.
One of the event’s biggest attractions is its variety. A young driver’s first project car might be parked alongside a multi-million-dollar Ferrari. Historic classics sit comfortably beside modern Lamborghinis, Bentleys and meticulously restored Australian icons. Motorcycle enthusiasts chat with truck owners, while race cars arrive on trailers to the delight of spectators.
The organisers have cultivated an inclusive atmosphere where every vehicle and every visitor is welcome.
You don’t need to own a classic car to attend. In fact, many visitors simply come to enjoy the spectacle, grab a coffee, catch up with friends and explore the beautiful village of Berrima.
What truly sets Cars & Coffee Southern Highlands apart is its commitment to supporting the wider community.
Throughout the year, the group regularly partners with local organisations, charities and community initiatives, using its growing popularity to create positive outcomes beyond the automotive world.
Upcoming initiatives include free skin cancer checks for attendees and community members through a partnership with the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation, helping raise awareness about an issue that affects thousands of Australians every year.
The group is also preparing for its second Camp Quality Highlands Cruise for a Cause, supporting children and families facing cancer, while another upcoming event will help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Berrima District Historical & Family History Society Museum. These initiatives reflect the spirit that has helped the event flourish – bringing people together while giving something back to the community that supports it.
