Celebrate Australia Day in Berrima VillagE

If you’ve been a part of the cherished tradition of Australia Day in charming Berrima Village over the past 20 years, you can expect some surprises from the 2024 event.

Together with WINGECARRIBEE SHIRE COUNCIL, the Berrima community have come together to hold one of their biggest Australia Day celebrations in recent years. Join in the family friendly fun this Australia Day in Berrima on 26th January 2024.

It all begins with a Citizenship Ceremony at the Market Place Berrima, that will welcome new residents to the region from 9.00am. The village will be alive with markets and entertainment throughout the day. 

The fabulous Australia Day Grand Parade takes place at 12pm – not to be miss!

Here’s a taste of what’s in store and why Berrima is the place to experience true community spirit:

Australia Day 2024 will be very similar in it’s traditions to previous years. The Berrima Market Place Park east will host the citizenship ceremony together with a market. Market Place Park west will host children’s amusement rides and a vehicle and engine display.

• The citizenship ceremony commences from 9am and concludes at 11am.
• The market begins at 9am and will conclude at 3pm.
• Grand Parade begins at 12pm and concludes at 1pm.

• Traffic control will commence from 8:00am.
• The Old Hume Highway will be closed from 11:00am until 1:00pm. This is a fixed closure with no vehicles permitted. This includes residents.
• There will be organised detours in place.
• Oxley Street (east) will be closed to the public at 8.00 am. Residents are permitted until the hard road closure begins at 11:00am.
• Jellore Street will be closed with residents permitted through Bryan Street until the hard road closure11am.
• The street parade shall assemble and start from Oxley Street (east) and travel south down the Old Hume Highway through Berrima and finish at Market Place Park.
• Parade and display participants will be arriving between 8:00am and 11:00am.
• The parade will start at 12:00pm and will conclude at 1:00pm.
• Several historic and classic vehicles, walking groups and other event vehicles will be in the street parade.
• All traffic will resume and all roads will reopen as normal after 1:00pm.

• Robina Beard OAM
• English-born Australian actress, dancer and choreographer. Beard has appeared in numerous stage and TV roles.
• Her commitment to Australian theatre continues and in 2011 she received an OAM for ‘Services to the Theatre, particularly in Dance’ for her exceptional contribution to her profession for over 65 years.

• There will be additional waste management with a focus around the Market Place Park. There will also be additional bathroom amenities to alleviate congestion.
• There will be a first responder and paramedic onsite at Market Place Park east between gam-3pm.
• Destination Southern Highlands and Wingecarribee Shire Council will have a stall on-site all day.
• There will be entertainment in the central marquee after the citizenship ceremony.

Did you know Berrima has a two family friendly playgrounds? Enjoy Berrima Market Place Park with climbing castle, in-ground mini trampolines, a seesaw, play-net, swings, toddler play ship and a 25m flying fox as well as BBQ’s, bathrooms and picnic tables. 

And then there is the Berrima River Reserve also with a playground, camping facilities and access to the local river for some wild swimming. From here you can also do the Berrima River Walk and read about the history of this wonderful highland town as you take in the natural spaces, river and wildlife.
